Scorpion II® Truck Mounted Attenuator

The Scorpion II Truck Mounted Attenuator is the world’s first MASH Tested, Passed, and Eligible Truck Mounted Attenuator. This attenuator is hydraulically powered, designed to optimize both stationary and mobile construction zones, and the results don’t lie. 17 years since its launch, the Scorpion TMA has endured more than 2000 documented impacts and saved thousands of lives.  Scorpion II TMA is compatible with the Doctor Air Brake® automatic braking system. This locks the host truck’s brakes instantly upon impact, offering greater protection to the truck’s driver, as well as the impacting vehicle’s occupants and any workers or bystanders at the crash site.

The Scorpion II TMA’s patented design consists of strut and cartridge sections linked together on a support frame. Each energy-absorbing cushion has an aluminum honeycomb core that is enclosed by an aluminum powder-coated box module that provides maximum durability and longevity. In addition, the Scorpion II TMA boasts the shortest overall length of any MASH eligible truck mounted attenuator on the market along with the widest range of host truck vehicle weights of any MASH tested and eligible truck mounted attenuator currently on the market.

In addition, Carolina Traffic Devices offers trucks pre-mounted with the Scorpion II, a turnkey solution for your needs with a message board or arrow sign included.

Scorpion II® TL-3 Towable Attenuator

The Scorpion II TL-3 Towable Attenuator is the world’s first MASH Tested, Passed, and Eligible Towable Attenuator. The single point of attachment makes truck installation quick and easy. As with all Scorpion crash attenuators, the Scorpion II TL-3’s design crushes in progressive stages, which reduces the impact forces on a vehicle’s occupants. This means lower repair costs and easy parts replacement.

Rear axle placement improves attenuator stability and prevents the tail from “bottoming out” on driveways and uneven surfaces. The Scorpion II TA features an integrated electric brake system automatically activated in the event of attenuator separation or hitch failure. The brake system features an LED brake with directional, signal, and running lights to further enhance advanced warnings to drivers. With the Telescoping Anti-Rotational System (TARS™), the Scorpion II’s rotation is minimized during angled and offset impacts. This prevents vehicle separation from the attenuator.

Scorpion II® METRO Truck Mounted Attenuator

The Scorpion II METRO TMA is the only TL-2 Plus (50 mph / 80 kph) MASH Tested and Passed. The Scorpion II METRO is designed for jobs on urban roadways with posted speeds of  50 mph (80 kph) or less, with urban design features including shorter length and storage height.  From a performance standpoint, the Scorpion II METRO has the same characteristics as other modular designs in the Scorpion product lineup. From energy-absorbing modules to patented curved aluminum frames, the Scorpion II Metro redirects impact away from the “coffin corner” and gives re-directional capabilities across the entire length of the TMA. This keeps repair costs down and reduces landfill waste.

Its modular design crushes on impact in progressive stages. This not only slows the vehicle to a stop, but also means easy replacement of damaged parts. When you select the Scorpion II METRO, you get a crash attenuator eligible for infinite weight eligibility for vehicles with curb weights as low as 7,500 pounds (like the Ford F-550).
